About the Event
Tom Seddon grew up in Ohio in the US.
In 1983 at a backpackers campground in London Tom met his first Australians, who taught him to avoid paying to ride the Tube. They also introduced him to rugby. That led ultimately to a middle age of creaky joints and replacement parts, but at the time was a revelation.
During law school Tom spent the 1987 season playing with Victoria University in Wellington, and after graduation in 1989 turned down a rugby tour of Ireland to join a Melbourne law firm. Tom served as director of the 2001 Asia/PacificAIDS Congress and the 2004 World Health Promotion Conference.
In 2005, Tom became CEO of The Bendigo Trust. Over the next decade, the Trust over the Chinese, opened Central Deborah's first new tour in decades, and overhauled and extended the Tram depot and workshop so that Bendigo could rebuild Melbourne's City Circle Trams. At Discovery, Tom added the Lab, Bendigo Planetarium, and the Kaleidoscope young children's zone.
All this led to four consecutive state tourism awards, entry in the Victorian Tourism Hall of Fame, and a national tourism award the year after Tom finished. After a couple years bumming around Europe
Tom returned to Melbourne and today runs neighbourhood houses in Docklands and North Melbourne.
Tom and Robert Niemann celebrated 30 years together in August. They were married in San Francisco in 2013 during his year as our club president and are both still very grateful for the club's wedding presents.
