Basketballs distributed to remote Queensland & NT communities

Thanks to Basketball Victoria Country, The Rotary Club of Bendigo has facilitated the distribution of basketballs, t-shirts and other sports equipment to communities in Northern Queensland and the Northern Territory.

In 2019, a total of 6 pallets of basketball equipment were distributed to 50 schools and aboriginal communities in remote and drought stricken regions including Cairns, Mt Isa, Mosaman, Townsville, Long Reach and Charleville. Katherine, Darwin, and Nullanboy

The Committee, made up of Robert Edgar, Peter Hyett, and Tom Dobeli, and were able to draw on their vocational skills to develop a network and utilised local QLD and NT Rotary Clubs as distribution points for the equipment. With a total donation of over $69,000 worth of transport and equipment, this project has made, and will continue to make, a huge difference in these remote communities well into the future.

Sending a huge thank you to all involved including Basketball Victoria Country, our Committee members, local storage companies, transport companies and other Rotary Clubs and members who gave their time and services to make this project such as success.
